The Malayan Sun Bear (Helarctos malaynus)
Recognizable by their long tongues, and the “U” shaped patch of fur on their chests, the Malayan Sun Bear seems like it would be hard to miss; but in reality, these bears are the rarest and also the smallest species of bear in the world (growing to be around 5 foot and 150 pounds). Malayan Sun Bears live in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, and have been put onto the vulnerable animals list due to extensive deforestation that is currently taking place. This bear has also been given the nickname of the “Honey Bear” due to their humongous appetite for honey and honeycombs.
